On our trip to Guatemala earlier this year, I had the chance to visit the QC lab of green coffee importer Kapeh Utz, in the town of San Lucas Toliman. I met up with their quality control manager and buyer Higinio Campa, who in addition to running that side of Kapeh Utz, is an incredibly talented roaster, cup taster, and coffee farmer as well!

Higinio put a bunch of samples from across the country on the table for us to taste, and they were all delicious! But this Pacamara varietal from Finca La Ceiba—a farm owned by Yosis Hugo Calderón Martínez in Huehuetenango—jumped off the table with its bright citrus acidity and incredible sweetness. It's a coffee I've been thinking about since February, and we're really excited that we were able to secure a few bags to share in our shops this month.

Some details about the coffee from Kapeh Utz, the amazing importer we worked with, who's relationship we are trading on to bring this coffee to our customers:

"Yosis Hugo Calderón Martínez has been working with coffee nearly all of his life. He points to his grandfather, a coffee producer with whom he spent most of his childhood, as the reason for his strong work ethic and knowledge of what goes into producing excellent coffee. For Don Hugo, to be a coffee producer means holding onto hope and struggling to produce the best coffees he can each year, even in the face of new challenges

This harvest, his biggest challenges are Guatemala's changing climate and rapidly decreasing workforce. His farm, Finca La Ceiba, bears the name of Guatemala's national tree, which is considered sacred in Mayan culture and is protected by law. Kapeh Utz is excited to be partnering with Don Hugo for the first time this year!"

Why choose us?

Our Relationships allow us to secure the best quality coffees at harvest and maintain high standards all the way through the roasting process. We proudly offer small batches of the highest quality craft coffee in a variety of roast profiles, blends, and single origins.

They roast everything at their second location and you can tell there's passion in every cup. When in the area, this will definitely be my go to coffee shop.

Snagged an iced dolce latte with oat milk for a quick stop between shopping! Loved it! One of the best places in Nashville.
